Off Piste skiing Holidays

Ski Resorts in Scotland

The resorts of Scotland are pretty small, but there are five places that will give a good days skiing in good weather in a good winter . Check the web links below for up-to-date access details and snow conditions. Remember the snow and weather reports issued by Scottish ski resorts will give a slightly flattering impression, especially if you are used to Alpine resorts!!

Scottish Resorts

Glenshee - The biggest resort, on both sides of the A93 Braemar to Blairgowrie road, less than a two hour drive from both Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Even quicker to get to from Perth and Dundee.

Glencoe - The nearest resort to Glasgow on the slopes of Meall a'Bhuirdh. Technically not actually in Glencoe, but great views from the pistes down the valley to the Buachaille

Aonach Mor - Also known as Nevis range. This resort is just north of the town of Fort William, with Aviemore the easiest resort to use if you're on public transport, lots of accommodation in and around Fort William.

Cairngorm - Scotland's highest resort, just about 10km outside the highland resort town of Aviemore. Very handy if you live in Inverness.

The Lecht - Scotland's smallest resort, but probably the one with the most reliable snow. On either side of the A939 Cockbridge to Tomintoul road in Aberdeenshire. Only really convenient to get to for the day from Aberdeen and the surrounding area.

I've skied and/or boarded all of these resorts, in fact I pretty much learned to ski at the Glenshee and Glencoe areas, and did my first ever snowboarding day at the Lecht. So I have fond memories, and the resorts are still great if you live in Scotland and can choose a good day to ski. But I wouldn't advise anyone to come to Scotland for a skiing holiday at any of these places, certainly not to book one in advance!!. More photos to come on this page soon.

Practical stuff

When to go Very unreliable with skiing possible from October to May, but February or March are likely to be the most consistent months.

Costs  Travel and accommodation in Scotland are not that cheap these days. Day tickets are expensive for what you get.

   Weirdness

High marks for weirdness are given because this is the only place in the world where I have had to push myself (with poles) all the way back down a piste because of the extremely high winds!
