The biggest resort on the North Island of New Zealand, Whakapapa is a modern resort on the north slopes of the active Ruapehu volcano

| When to go | August and September are probably the best months. |
| Where to go | Fly to Auckland or Wellington for the North Island, Christchurch for the South Island. |
| Costs | Travel and accommodation in NZ during winter are pretty cheap, a hire car (with chains) can be useful fro reaching the smaller ski-fields on the south island |
