Ski 'Resorts' in England

The puzzling and complex piste plan for Yad Moss, the biggest ski resort in England...! Courtesy Snowlion

The resorts of England are pretty small, but there are four places that have more or less permanent tows in place, and in a good winter will open on at least several weekends. All are run by small clubs and staffed by volunteers, so find out some up to date access information before making your way to these places.

English Resorts

Yad Moss - on the east side of the B6277 about 10km south of Alston in the extreme southeast of Cumbria.

Raise - on the northeast slopes of the hill of the same name, an hours walk from Glenridding on Ullswater.

Allenheads - In the village of Allenheads, Northumbria, 15km or so south of Hexham.

Swinhope Moor - Two tows, linked together, on the  west side of the unclassified road over the Westernhope Moor, south of St Johns Chapel in Weardale.

See the Snowlion website for more details of all these areas.

I've only been to one of these resorts, and didn't have my camera with me. The tow at Raise just to the north of Helvellyn is pictured below on a poor day! Nice to combine a few turns here though with a day touring on the plateau of Helvellyn.
