Chacaltaya Ski Field in Bolivia
The view towards the 6088m summit of Huayna Potosi from Chacaltaya the world's highest ski resort at 5100m.
Chacaltaya is the world's highest ski resort. It's also the ski resort nearest the equator. This all sounds great but the reality is just a wee bit different. There is one barely functioning rope-tow on a small glacier at 5100m that is rapidly shrinking and these days is often icy.... Still, if its novelty you are after then this is definitely the place. And Bolivia is an interesting country with some great scenery and good ski-mountaineering opportunities elsewhere.
